American songstress Lana Del Rey has capped off an eventful week with the release of patent leather do-over, taken from one of her upcoming poetry collections. The track is three and a half minutes of ambient recollections on the late feminist author Sylvia Plath, set aside music by Del Rey’s long time collaborator Jack Antonoff.
The release comes just days after Del Rey penned an Instagram essay calling out the double standards that her music has faced in comparison with her contemporaries. The post has since received major backlash, with audiences marking the post as a “tone deaf” display of “white feminist privilege”.

Posted on Instagram over an atmospheric video of Malibu palm trees, the track has received an overwhelmingly positive response from fans. “this gave me goosebumps omg,” one fan commented.

The other upcoming spoken word album is titled Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. Both of these releases will feature the talents of Antonoff, one of the driving forces behind Del Rey’s latest album Norman Fucking Rockwell!.
Del Rey has also just announced September 5th as the release date for her upcoming album, via Instagram.
Introducing this new record, the singer also posted her now infamous essay, the opening lines of which many found as problematic:
“Now that Doja Cat, Ariana, Camila, Cardi B, Kehlani and Nicki Minaj and Beyonce have had number ones with songs about being sexy, wearing no clothes, fucking, cheating etc – can I please go back to singing about being embodied, feeling beautiful by being in love even if the relationship is not perfect, or dancing for money – or whatever I want – without being crucified or saying that I’m glamorising abuse??????”
