The Duffer Brothers have revealed that a new TV spin-off and stage play is currently in production, based on the Stranger Things series.
‘Stranger Things’ producers, Matt and Ross Duffer have declared that a live-action TV spin-off and stage play based on their hit Netflix sci-fi series are being produced as we speak. The news came following their launch of newly-formed production company, Upside Down Pictures.
Despite the rumours circulating about these forthcoming projects, the Duffer Brothers have confirmed that the spin-off will not be centred around the characters of Eleven, Steve or Dustin. As they recently stated on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, “I’ve read these rumours that there’s gonna be an Eleven spin-off, that there’s gonna be a Steve and Dustin spin-off, or that it’s another number,” they said. “That’s not interesting to me because we’ve done all that. We’ve spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of that. So it’s very different.”
They added, “the most important connective tissue I would say is the storytelling sensibility of it. There is story that connects to the Stranger Things world, but it really is more about how we’re telling that story.”
The duo also announced that they plan to hand the spin-off to a different producer. They said, “hopefully we find that right person to pass the baton to while we go on to do new stuff.”
In even more Duffer Brothers news, the pair will also be developing a a live-action rendition of renowned anime series, Death Note as part of their five-project deal with Netflix. These projects will be developed by their new production firm, Upside Down Pictures. Wow, so much new material to look forward to from this dynamic duo!
