A collection of Andy Warhol's earliest illustrations is set to be published

Warhol fan? 7 books written and illustrated by Andy Warhol in his 20s are being republished

Before Andy Warhol was pop, he cut his teeth in the same way many budding illustrators, designers or artists do, with a series of commercial projects. It’s hard to believe that his name was ever anything but world famous, yet in his 20s even Warhol needed to undergo some self-promotion.

Andy Warhol. Seven Illustrated Books 1952–1959 is a new portfolio set to be released by Taschen, who were previously responsible for publishing a set of unseen photos from The Man Who Fell To Earth as well as an unprecedented collection of record covers spanning the last 60 years.

Peek behind the pop veneer of Andy Warhol thanks to a new portfolio from Taschen; a collection of the budding artist’s earliest illustrative works.

Only two of the seven books included in the collection have ever been republished, making this a landmark feature. Each book has been reproduced as authentically as possible, imitating everything from the paper to the size and feel of the originals.

“The Foundation is delighted to collaborate with TASCHEN to introduce Warhol’s whimsical books from the 1950s. These rarely seen gems provide a unique perspective on one of the world’s most fascinating artists,” says Michael Dayton Hermann, Director of Licensing of the Andy Warhol Foundation.
