AC/DC fans are trying for a Christmas Takeover to celebrate the big 50

AC/DC’s Highway to Hell perhaps, or Back in Black, which Acca Dacca song do you want to hit number one the Xmas charts?

The UK is no stranger to quirky Christmas traditions, and one that stands out is the annual race for the Christmas Number 1 spot.

The unorthodox winner in 2009 was Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name,” a track released 17 years earlier. A public campaign, fueled by discontent with The X Factor, propelled the song to the coveted festive top spot.

This year, a familiar rallying cry echoes in the rock community as AC/DC fans aim to inscribe their own chapter in Christmas chart history.

Rewind to 2013, and the AC/DC We Salute You Facebook page campaigned to secure ‘Highway to Hell’ to Number 4 on the band’s 40th anniversary. Now, in 2023, they’re back for a repeat performance, seeking to secure an even higher position for the 50th.

The rallying call? “In 2013, we celebrated 40 years of AC/DC… now, for their 50th anniversary, we’re choosing another track. Are you in? If so, join this group and invite everyone. Big Balls to LadBaby!”

With nearly 1,000 new members joining the AC/DC for Christmas No.1 public group in the last 24 hours, the campaign is gaining traction at a steady pace.

As for the song selection, it’s a mixtape in the making – ‘Thunderstruck,’ ‘Touch Too Much,’ ‘Back in Black,’ ‘Mistress for Christmas,’ and ‘Hells Bells’ are in contention.

I guess the burning question is, can AC/DC pull off a Christmas miracle and outshine the holiday classics? Guess we will have to wait and see.
