Our adopted sister Áine Tyrell is a symbol for multiculturalism, with her latest album blending modern Irish with a twist of Aussie rock n’ roll.
Those already familiar with her previous works may be surprised with how much our Aussie rock has influenced the Irish songstress, but it’s definitely a pretty cool growth of her sound.
Hailing all the way from the west coast of Ireland, Áine Tyrell brings the sounds of her home to Australia with a magical modern and rock n’ roll spin.
Return to the Sea immediately captures the essence of Ireland sonically, but gives it new space and breathing room. It is a musical journey for Tyrell, sharing her passion for exploration and travel to new places, real and musically.
The record was inspired by Tyrell’s recent return to her homeland and the emotions surrounding revisiting the people and places that built her. But above all this, Return To The See is an activism record.
Tyrell explains: “Return to The Sea is about standing in power, owning your own skin and making sense of the shared responsibility we have as humans. The album embraces stories that have inspired me to do more than just sit and hope for change.”
This message is particularly clear in tracks like Hear Us Sing and Born to Do This, where Tyrell calls for peace, respect, and no more harm to come to those who we perceive as different to us.
Hope Will See Me Through is a sweet, uplifting track that despite the worst we go through, all we can do it hope and that can get us past it. It’s a truly beautiful track, definitely worth listening through the whole record for.
Ending on a track with a Celtic name, Tyrell catches us by surprise. I’ll not spoil it, but it marries her new Aussie home with her Celtic roots perfectly. Make this the album you listen to today.
