Global hacking network, Anonymous, target Elon Musk in latest video

Global hacking network, Anonymous, targets Elon Musk in their latest video.

The notorious hacking group has their sights set on one of the world’s most powerful men.

On Saturday (June 5), Anonymous uploaded a video to YouTube labelling the Tesla billionaire as a “narcissistic rich dude” who is out of touch with everyday people.

“For the past several years you have enjoyed one of the most favourable reputations of anyone in the billionaire class, because you have tapped into the desire that many of us have to live in a world with electric cars and space exploration,” says the masked figure in the video.

“But recently your carefully created public image is being exposed, and people are beginning to see you as nothing more than another narcissistic rich dude who is desperate for attention.”

“It appears that your quest to save the world is more rooted in a superiority complex than it is in actual concern for humanity,” the figure says, referring to numerous projects that Musk has been involved in.

These include space exploration, electric-powered cars and cryptocurrencies.

“There are plenty of other companies working on space exploration and electric vehicles, you are just the only CEO who has gained a cult following through sh*tposting and trolling the world on social media,” says Anonymous.

“As hardworking people have their dreams liquidated over your public temper tantrums, you continue to mock them with memes from one of your million dollar mansions.”

Some suspect that the video was prompted by an ambiguous tweet Musk made regarding bitcoin. In the tweet, Musk placed a broken heart emoji beside “#Bitcoin” followed by its corresponding emoji.

The tweet also contained a meme referring to a breakup. Garnering over 200k likes, the tweet has led some to suspect that the eccentric billionaire has moved on from the controversial cryptocurrency.

Also, it has recently been revealed that the digital currency has severe negative impacts on the environment.

One study found that “the bitcoin network uses as much energy in one year as the country of Argentina”.

Musk’s impact on the environment is also something that Anonymous acknowledged in their video. Using a news article titled “‘Blood batteries’ fuel fortune of Elon Musk” to preface their words, the figure in the video criticises Musk’s “overseas lithium mines” and the damage they’re doing to the local environment.

“You may think you are the smartest person in the room, but now you have met your match. We are Anonymous! We are legion. Expect us,” the video concludes.

With all this being said, it’s important to acknowledge that the legitimacy of the video has been called into question.

While Forbes pointed out that Anonymous’s official social media accounts have denied their involvement with the video, one account, ‘YourAnonCentral’ on Twitter, has supported it.

As of now, Musk has not issued a response.
