In an interview with BBC Radio 2, Queen‘s Brian May said that he’s yet to reap the financial rewards of the the biopic megahit, Bohemian Rhapsody.
Not that we feel sorry for him, but apparently Brian May hasn’t made a quid out of Bohemian Rhapsody. The movie that is, not the song.
Just to recap, some of the insane stats from the movie include: highest grossing musical biopic ever (almost a billion dollars worldwide); Rami Malek – Best Actor Oscar winner for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury; Oscars for Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing and Best Editing. It was also 12 years in the making.
In the interview with BBC’s Zoe Ball, May mentioned:
“I had to laugh the other day, because there’s a thing in the paper saying that we were getting rich off this movie. If they only knew. We had an accountant in the other day, and we still haven’t earned a penny from it. Isn’t that funny? How successful does a movie have to be before you make money.”
Off the back of the movie’s success, the band are set to rock arenas and stadiums the world over. No doubt a chance to make some serious bank.
