Art of Sleeping – Crazy

I remember back in 2011 when I first discovered Art of Sleeping. It was with the track Colourblind (which I can’t seem to download or buy anywhere, why!). I can’t remember what I was doing or how I even stumbled upon them, but what I do know is that my first impressions of them still ring true, despite their transformation with a mounting rock sound. “This band master the art of sleeping, their name is so damn perfect!” is probably what a 17 year-old me would’ve thought, but who am I kidding that’s what I’d say even today – some things never change and it’s often for the better.

Art of Sleeping’s Crazy is full of confident rhythmic guitar lines & soulful vocals that have this godly quality – it’s bursting with rock goodness.

Brisbane’s indie rock band, Art of Sleeping, with Caleb Hodges (vocals & guitars), Jean-Paul Malengret (drums), Jarryd Shuker (keyboards), Patrick Silver (guitars) and Francois Malengret (bass) and their latest single Crazy, oozes soulful and intense rock vibes as it explores the theme of obsessive love – highly textured, full of strength with its confident instrumentals and fronted by Caleb whose vocals perfectly sit between folk and rock with its raspy and rugged tone, commanding authority and peace all at once. That does perhaps explain why the song makes me want to preach ‘hallelujah’ to it – strange I know, but Art of Sleeping are worth worshipping after all.

With a revitalised aura from their debut EP Like A Thief (2012), their upcoming album with Crazy as the first single release, gives off more of a gritty attitude – perhaps the exclusion of acoustic instrumentation (guitars and piano) which is characteristic of the band’s earlier and founding sound creates this impression. Time will tell if the band do this throughout the album, but either way, it works.

Signed up with Universal Music and Dew Process (The GratesLittle May and Tkay Maidza to name a very few of the Aussie greats), we’re crazy* for Art of Sleeping and their Crazy tour!
