Ben Affleck opened up about his marriage to Jennifer Gardner on The Howard Stern Show.
Affleck told the controversial radio host if he and Garner hadn’t broken up in 2015 he’s probably still be drinking.
“It’s part of why I started drinking,” Affleck told Stern. “Because I was trapped.”
“We had a marriage that didn’t work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn’t be married any longer,” he said. “Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids.”
The Oscar winner said he used alcohol as a coping mechanism when he realised he was no longer happy with Garner, the mother of his three children.
The pair split just one day after their 10 year anniversary and it took almost 2 years before they filed for divorce.
“We probably would’ve ended up at each other’s throats. I probably still would’ve been drinking,” Affleck candidly admitted.
While it does sound more like the actor was blaming the situation rather than Garner herself, Affleck is now coping a whole lot of shit from fans on social media telling him not to blame his ex-wife for his addiction.

Affleck even added that he thought his ex was a good mum so, it seems a little like the keyboard warriors have only been skimming the news this morning.
“The truth was we took our time, we made the decision, we grew apart. We had a marriage that didn’t work. I knew she was a good mum, and I hoped she knew I was a good dad. I had to get sober, and I acknowledge that.” Affleck said on the radio show.
Still, that wasn’t enough praise to appease the masses and in all fairness, the whole interview reeks of ‘poor me’ so, Garner fans have taken to Twitter to let Affleck know how they really feel.

The whole mess seems like something that is simply TMI about two people’s very private life but hey, that’s what you get for dishing on Howard Stern’s notoriously shitty radio show.
