Black Wire Benefit Show @ The Red Rattler

A few weeks ago I went to Black Wire Records for the first time (I was never an angsty teenage punk – at least not in public), and seriously, I felt like I was stepping onto the set of Portlandia. All the girls had short hair, there were punk records and cool posters plastered everywhere, and I got to see the amazing Roku Music absolutely destroy.

That sort of shit couldn’t happen anywhere else in Sydney. Tonight and Tomorrow sees a whole host of bands hit up The Red Rattler in Sydney to raise some money for new microphones, PA repairs, soundproofing and general maintenance for Black Wire.

Running a live music venue/record store in Sydney isn’t easy. Head down to The Rat tonight and check out some awesome Melbourne bands – all proceeds going towards Black Wire Records.

Friday (18th April) will feature Melbournites Deep Heat, White Walls and Spite House at the Red Rattler Theatre in Marrickville. The first two released a Split 7″ last year (for Record Store Day, actually) which is one side lo-fi dolewave, real suburban Melbourne stuff, one side facemelting shoegaze fuzz, real Melbourne warehouse stuff. Spite House give off a similar vibe, especially in terms of their lo-fi aesthetic.

Continuing the low fidelity sound will be Sydney’s Making, Bare Grillz, Oily Boys and brand new band Grey Places making a premiere performance. Bare Grillz are also heading down to Melbourne and Newcastle next week, so be sure to check out their bandcamp for full dates and locations.

Presale tix for Friday night are available from Black Wire’s website at a mere $15 a pop. Doors at The Rat open at 4pm.
