Confirmed: Sony to showcase ‘The Future of Gaming’ this week

Later this week—1 pm Thursday Pacific Time and 6 am Friday Australian Eastern Standard Time, to be exact—Sony will deliver its promised ‘The Future of Gaming’ showcase, finally giving fans the chance to see new games on its next-gen console.

2020, of course, has been massively disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The showcase was slated to take place last week but was understandably postponed, so as not to take attention away from the Black Lives Matter protests around the globe. But now, we finally have a date to lock in: let the countdown begin.DualSense Controller

Sony will unveil the ‘The Future of Gaming’, aka, their PlayStation 5 showcase this Friday, Australian time. Finally, the world will witness gameplay on the PS5.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) chief Jim Ryan summed up the significance of the showcase in a blog post:

The games coming to PS5 represent the best in the industry from innovative studios that span the globe. Studios, both larger and smaller, those newer and those more established, all have been hard at work developing games that will showcase the potential of the hardware.

Sony also spelled out a caveat for the event:

I wanted to add that this pre-taped program will be broadcast at 1080p and 30 frames per second,” said Sid Shuman of SIE, “The games you’ll see on Thursday will look even better when you play them on PS5 with a 4K TV, as you’d expect.”

Tune in at the Playstation website and heat up the popcorn for an early Friday morning start!
