‘Cyberpunk 2077’: prevalence of dildos not actually intended

Out of all of Cyberpunk 2077‘s problems, it appears that the priority is to fix the overabundance of dildos present in the game world.

The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 has been rough to say the least. From terrible performance on last-gen consoles to the myriad of bugs, game-breaking or otherwise, the game has received a considerable amount of criticism from players disappointed in the final product after years of hype.

One of the more bizarre observations made by players was the abundance of dildos available as loot in Night City. While sex shops are present in the game world, dildos have been found in unusual locations such as rooftops, garages, and trash.

It turns out that rather than being part of CD Projekt Red’s vision of a sex-positive society, this particular detail is actually the result of a bug. Rather than these items being individually placed throughout Night City, they instead spawn randomly throughout the world of Cyberpunk 2077, resulting in the prevalence of dildos seen in areas they shouldn’t be seen in.

Dildos are considered as a ‘junk’ item that can be sold for in-game currency or dismantled for crafting components. There’s even a dildo weapon that can be acquired through a certain side quest.

Speaking to Kotaku, senior quest designer Philipp Weber stated that dildos are indeed part of depicting “Night City to be pretty open sexually where something by today’s standards might be taboo or kinky is very normal and commonplace by 2077 standards.”

However, this has gone awry, with Weber adding “the amount of dildos in the game world was pretty high. We’re going to adjust them so that the dildos don’t appear too out of place/context and distracting and more where they should be by design.”

Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that deals with mature themes and aesthetics, though it has not quite stuck the landing, as seen with customisable genitalia resulting in a NSFW bug where player character V can suffer a wardrobe malfunction.

As for the many dildos littering the game world, one can argue that it adds a lot of character and atmosphere to a world already brimming with such detail, regardless if it was unintended in the first place.
