Daniel Johns ‘FutureNever’ second coming

Daniel Johns ‘FutureNever’ album returns to number one on the Aria charts for the second time since its April release.

‘FutureNever’ is experiencing a healthy run, hitting the top of the Aria charts twice in one year, making it the highest-selling album by an Australian artist so far for 2022. Johns has also been nominated for Best Solo Artist at this year’s upcoming ARIA Awards.

Taking a different path from the traditional method of promoting the album’s release, Johns was been busy with an original podcast ‘Who Is Daniel Johns?’ (Spotify) and a special immersive art exhibition ‘Past, Present & FutureNever’ in Melbourne, which has been extended due to popular demand until December 23, and to top it all off,  a ‘grunge sci-fi’ featurette ‘What If The Future Never Happened?’ due out later this year.

Johns has shared via a statement, “To have FutureNever go to #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart twice in 2022 and spend 6 weeks in the ARIA Top 10 is amazing. Thank you to the incredible people who worked on this album with me and a very special thank you to everyone who has listened to FutureNever and helped spread the word. For an album with no singles and no music videos, I’m truly grateful that the music is speaking for itself.”

Johns explained, “The FutureNever multi-verse has provided me with a vast canvas to create immersive experiences that transcend a traditional release campaign. I wanted to show artists that there was a better way to do it than a desperate chase for a fleeting viral trend. I didn’t ever set out to have a ‘chart hit’ with FutureNever but I thought if I did the opposite of what the traditional music industry said I should do, there might just be something in that”.

Past, Present & FutureNever’  currently on display in Melbourne, explores the height of ‘90s Australian grunge culture through to making his latest album ‘FutureNever’, sharing a vault of personal memorabilia and an array of experiential exhibits from the future.

Joined by guest collaborators Adnate, Celeste Mountjoy, and Claire Foxton. You can check out the ‘Past, Present & FutureNever’ exhibition at  Melbourne’s chic Rialto building throughout September and October.
