The Australian premiere of Sir David Attenborough’s documentary series Blue Planet II: Live in Concert was last week announced by BBC Studios and will grace theatres in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in 2019.
Blue Planet II took four years to film. The series’ creators travelled to 39 countries and every major ocean, capturing some of the most beautiful footage of the ocean the world has ever seen.
There’s good news and bad news, though. The bad news is that The King of Nature himself will not be touring with the production.
The good news is that Attenborough’s infamous narration will be undertaken by English actress and television personality Joanna Lumley, in her first ever Australian stage performance.
The shows will see the series’ original scores (from the likes of Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea and David Fleming) being performed live by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in front of the series’ projection onto a 75 square metre 4K Ultra LED screen.
Said Joanna Lumley of the series:
“I am thrilled to be coming to Australia for my stage debut hosting the breathtaking ‘Blue Planet II: Live in Concert’. This incredible concert experience is not to be missed and I cannot wait to see you there.”
