Wish You Were Here: 5 times David Gilmour played Syd Barrett’s songs onstage

For Pink Floyd, the influence of Syd Barrett never quite dissipated. Watch even now as David Gilmour offers homage to the frontman with a series of impassioned performances.

While most people understand Pink Floyd to be the commercial juggernaut known for bodies of work such as Dark Side of the MoonWish You Were Here or The Wall, a smaller assemblage of their fanbase understands the significance of Syd Barrett.

A founding member of Pink Floyd, Barrett’s position in the band was short-lived. His influence, however, was not.

Songs written by Barrett didn’t stretch far beyond Pink Floyd’s debut LP The Piper at the Gates of Dawnas David Gilmour was phased into the band simultaneously to Barrett’s LSD-induced mental decline. That however, is a story of its own.

Here we see a collection of live clips in which Gilmour tributes Barrett’s craftsmanship, playing a score of early Pink Floyd cuts to audiences far later in his career including one especially moving clip featuring David Bowie.
