Dorian Electra queers biblical aesthetics with new music video for Adam & Steve

Camp-pop provocateur Dorian Electra has just dropped a new music video for the song Adam & Steve, off their excellent debut album Flamboyant (seriously, go give it a listen).

Over the past few years, Dorian Electra (who identifies as gender-fluid) has honed their distinctly unique brand of pop, which is intellectual and comical in equal measure, and tackles commentary on gender and queerness with a high-camp sensibility.

Adam & Steve tackles the troubled history of Christianity and homosexuality and is rich in biblical imagery, all of which are subverted in some form.

The immaculate (and frequently arresting) visuals that comprise their music videos are the perfect representation of this, reflecting humorous deconstructions of masculine archetypes (such as the high-flying corporate businessman in Career Boy, the ‘tough guy’ in Man To Man and the ‘sugar daddy’ in Daddy Like).

The video for new single Adam & Steve takes the troubled history of Christianity and homosexuality as its focus. As the title would suggest, it is rich in biblical imagery, all of which are subverted in some form.

Bible pages are gradually soaked through with blood, gimp mask-wearing grim reapers perform an exorcism, a religious icon is shattered with a Molotov cocktail.

The video is a chaotic, high impact experience that culminates with Adam & Steve reuniting in heaven, where there are angels dancing on stripper poles (of course).
