‘Dungeons & Dragons’ fans can compete to turn their campaign into a Lego set

Dungeons & Dragons turns 50 in 2023! To celebrate, Lego and Wizards of the Coast have launched a custom Lego design competition for fans.

Dungeons & Dragons will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023. In honour of the momentous milestone, Lego has joined forces with Wizards of the Coast, and launched a custom Lego design competition for fans to enter.

As described by Polygon, D&D fans can showcase the “in-game adventures” they’ve embarked on throughout the years, by developing a creative design inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. For example, “a blocky dragon’s lair full of loot, a terrifying Beholder, or a tavern brawl instigated by tiny yellow barbarians.”

Applications are open now, and fans have until November 14 to submit their design. The judging panel tasked with assessing the designs will comprise employees of both Wizards of the Coast and Lego Ideas.

Their selections will then progress to the “Fan Vote,” which will be open from November 28 to December 12 of this year. This vote will assist judges in gauging the public’s interest in particular designs and “validate fan excitement for the theme.”

Winners will have their Lego builds transformed into a retail product, and according to Gizmodo, they’ll “receive copies of the set,” as well as “a percentage of the profits.”

A further breakdown of the winner’s prizes is outlined by Polygon, who report they will receive “1% of the total net sales of the LEGO IDEAS Dungeons & Dragons product; 10 complimentary copies of your LEGO IDEAS Dungeons & Dragons set; credit and bio in set materials as the LEGO IDEAS Dungeons & Dragons Fan Designer; and a prize package of Dungeons & Dragons goodies!”

Lego Ideas write, “join us in celebrating 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons! To celebrate those 50 adventure filled years, we invite you to ignite your imagination and showcase your favourite aspects of the Dungeons & Dragons game using Lego bricks, elements and pieces! You can create your ultimate builds, base on your favourite storylines, monsters, characters, heroes and locations.”

Keen to enter? To submit your design, head to the official contest page here, and check out the full terms and conditions on the Lego Ideas website.
