Superstar Gorilla Koko and Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers have had a cheeky bass jam together

Many gorillas have had fleas before, but never one this big. The famous, super-intelligent gorilla Koko recently staged a meet up with Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea.

Far from starstruck, Koko took the opportunity to score a bass lesson from one of the world’s best.

Being a celeb in the world of primates has its benefits. Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea recently hung out with Koko the gorilla for an intimate slap sesh.

According to Koko’s website The Gorilla Foundation, the nimble-fingered ape “was thrilled by the mellow sounds and a jamming session followed”.

Flea looks pretty relaxed throughout the whole ordeal. Presumably, sitting next to a 160kg gorilla is a pretty tame experience compared to rocking onstage with the Chili’s.

The band has had a big year, with their latest album The Getaway dropping two months ago. It has been the first since 2011’s I’m With You, and the four dudes from Cali have been on a pretty hectic press tour ever since. Any release from a band so seminal comes with a ton of expectation, so we can hardly blame Flea for taking a moment to chill with a new mate (and potential collaborator).

You can catch the video below, released on RHCP’s Youtube channel. Keep in mind, Koko is only a beginner. We can’t all shred like Flea the first time we pick up a bass.
