Farmer & The Owl – Secret Laneway Party

Yours & Owls are doing awesome things down in the Gong. Setting up consistently awesome live parties on the scale and local sound focus of legendary nights like Trainspotters in Brizzy or MUM here in Sydney, the collective are at it again, hosting Happy’s pick of the best party all weekend.

And with lineups like this, you’d be mad not to buy tix to Farmer & The Owl! Check out this stellar lineup of interstate psychedelic supergroups.

Teaming up with Music Farmers to create Farmer & The Owl, the dudes have recently branched out into doing touring, artist management and a whole festival under the Farmer & The Owl brand, the inaugural event bringing The Drones, Dappled Cities, The Laurels, Surf City, Harmony, Day Ravies and more to Wollongong University last year. Sunday night (13 April) sees them put on a top secret laneway party, the location of which will only be revealed on the day to ticketholders.

Luckily, the lineup is fully available, and boy is it a doozy. Headlining the event are psychedelic songwriting powerhouses King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – a band who have just followed up the critically acclaimed Float Along – Fill Your Lungs with a fourth album, Oddments. King Gizz are just the tip of the psychedelic iceberg however.

Happy faves Day Ravies are heading down, still spinning the stuff from late 2013’s 10/10 dream pop release Tussle and putting on shows that belie their relative calm and swirling tunes. Joining them will be The Walking Who and The Grease Arrestor, two bands who take a very Lou Reed attitude towards the psych zeitgeist. Psychgeist? Blending elements of drone, gaze, jangle and general BJM-ness, the two bands are nearly the definition of what’s hot in NSW’s own velvet underground.

Lastly, we have local Wollongongites Miners, who have been creating a name for themselves around town, albeit a name that is nigh on impossible to google. They’re not Miners, nor are they Miner, and they’re definitely not Mining Boom – but if you can find this Miners, the internet monkeys here at Happy would super appreciate the link.

Tickets are $20 a pop and are selling fast – there were only 100 left as of Thursday, and that number is only gonna get smaller. Check the Facebook event page for details on the location and set times this weekend. Also, if anyone has a car and lives in Sydney and wants to give us a ride down to Wollongong this Sunday, that would be awesome…
