Flying Lotus revealed for Tasmania’s Mona Foma 2020

January is heating up with the announcement of next year’s Mona Foma, the summer counterpart to Tasmania’s critically acclaimed Dark Mofo.

Held in Launceston between January 11 and 20, the festival has revealed the first instalment of their artist program, with celebrated producer and DJ Flying Lotus and Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi headlining the event.

Tasmania’s Mona Foma 2020 arts festival has announced that LA musician Flying Lotus will be joining the bill, along with pianist Ludovico Einaudi.

The main drawcard for the festival will be electronic pioneer Flying Lotus, who will be bringing his multi-dimensional sound and visual experience to the festival this coming summer. His production will combine 3D screen technology and and psychedelic audio imagery to form an incredible funk-infused performance inside Mona Foma’s festival hub.

This announcement comes off the back of FlyLo’s latest release Flamagra, which saw him collaborate with musical luminaries such as Solange, Herbie Hancock and Anderson Paak.

Also announced for Mona Foma festival is pianist Ludovico Einaudi, a renowned classical music superstar who will be bringing his latest project Seven Days Walking to Tasmania. Known for his eclectic cinematic style, Einaudi will perform a seven-part cycle that is inspired by winter in the Alps.

In a statement, curator of Mona Foma 2020, Brian Ritchie, says “Ludovico and FlyLo represent extremes in music-making. Ludovico, meditative and interrogating, FlyLo, an immersive sound and visual spectacle. Literally a spectacle because you’ll need your 3D specs. they are bookends in a program that can embrace such polarity in the name of unbridled individual expression.”

Mona Foma 2020 will be running between Saturday 11 January and Monday 20 January. The full Mona Foma 2020 lineup will be revealed on October 18 and early bird tickets are on sale now via the festival website.
