Fungas tickle your brain once again on latest ‘Theory Of The Mind’

Theory Of The Mind from Newcastle act, Fungas is the ideal soundtrack for cooked late-night walks in the suburbs.

Four-piece psych-rock outfit, Fungas are a little bit mad. They’re ooze of creativity, experimentation, and passion, stretching the limits of sonic possibility on every track they record.

On their latest single, Theory Of The Mind, the boys get even more ambitious, and their attention to detail turns a good track into an excellent one.

Fungas

Fungas opens the single with a wavy mellotron that builds a colourful chord. Then, the boys pitch-shift the whole fucking chord down and trip out your eardrums even further. The disassociation from the home chord catches you off-guard and ensures you give Theory Of The Mind the attention it deserves. I can imagine this being quite a fun, audacious studio moment for the band.

Next up is a scratchy, fingerpicked electric guitar lick, backing some spaced-out vocals that pan from ear to ear. There’s only one genre to describe this track, and that’s psych-rock. If you’re a fan of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, definitely give this one a whirl.

The track also treats us to multiple dramatic shifts in tempo and rhythm to maintain interest. By the time the drums kick in, you’ll be floating – the track is just so transporting. It’s difficult to pinpoint the hook but to focus on the structure would be missing the point. This song is a journey that you’re meant to experience, not sing along to.

Delayed guitars, smooth basslines, and effect-drenched vocals are utilised for a reason. It’s only a matter of time before Fungas become a psych-rock staple for bohemian’s and kindred spirits all around town.
