Genesis Owusu returns with highly anticipated single and video “Tied Up!” from upcoming album “Struggler”

Genesis Owusu returns with electrifying new single “Tied Up!” and announces highly anticipated album and world tour.

Prepare for a thrilling musical journey as the multi-ARIA Award-winning Ghanaian-Australian artist, Kofi Owusu-Ansah, better known as Genesis Owusu, unleashes his latest masterpiece upon the world.

Today, he unveils his newest single and video, “Tied Up!”, a tantalizing taste of what’s to come in his highly anticipated sophomore album, “Struggler,” set to release on August 18 via OURNESS / AWAL.

And that’s not all—the announcement is accompanied by the exciting news of a world tour, kicking off in Australia this December.

Premiered on BBC Radio 1’s Hottest Record with Clara Amfo, “Tied Up!” stands as the magnum opus of the album, featuring a stomping beat and a warping guitar line.

Owusu’s forceful vocals cut through, speaking to the core of the album’s mindset—a struggle to navigate an uneasy world while staying true to oneself.

Produced by the talented duo Sol Was (known for Beyoncé’s Renaissance) and Henry Was (Justin Jay, Thumpasaurus), the track pays homage to fan favourites like “Good Times” and “Wit Da Team,” while delivering an addictive energy that will surely become a staple in Genesis Owusu’s electrifying live performances.

Continuing his creative collaboration with acclaimed Aotearoa (New Zealand) visual artist, Lisa Reihana, the surreal music video for “Tied Up!” showcases Owusu as a boxer fighting his own demons, capturing the essence of personal battles and survival.

Set to be released on August 18, “Struggler” explores the chaos and absurdity of life and our ability to endure. While Owusu’s debut album, “Smiling With No Teeth,” bravely addressed depression and racism, “Struggler” delves into the question of how to overcome these struggles.

Inspired by a close friend’s journey back from the brink and prompted by philosophical reflections from Samuel Beckett’s “Waiting for Godot” and Franz Kafka’s “Metamorphosis,” the album was recorded between the United States and Australia, showcasing a diverse range of musical influences from producers such as Jason Evigan (RUFUS DU SOL, SZA), Mikey Freedom Hart (Jon Batiste’s Grammy-winning album “We Are”), Sol Was, and original producers Andrew Klippel and Dave Hammer.

To celebrate the album’s release, Genesis Owusu will embark on an exhilarating world tour, presented by Ourness, Astral People, and Handsome Tours, with the support of triple j.

Bringing the STRUGGLER live experience to major cities across Australia, including Perth, Melbourne, his hometown Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, and Adelaide, Owusu will be joined by special US guests EARTHGANG (excluding Perth).

Tickets are on sale now for this high-energy tour, marking the perfect ending to an already extraordinary year for both artists. Make sure not to miss out on this incredible event!

“Struggler” was first introduced earlier this year with the release of the single “Leaving The Light,” which rapidly climbed the charts, garnering international acclaim from Wonderland, NME, DAZED, BBC Radio 1, and triple j.

Genesis Owusu’s success continued to soar as he performed the single to sold-out crowds across the US, including two monumental shows at Madison Square Garden.

As we enter a new era with Genesis Owusu, mark your calendars for August 18, when “Struggler” arrives in all its glory. And don’t miss the opportunity to witness his biggest world tour yet, taking place this December. This is an experience you won’t want to miss!
