Genesis Owusu announces ‘STRUGGLER’ and shares a new video colab with Lisa Reihana

Genesis Owusu is set to release his highly anticipated second album, “STRUGGLER,” accompanied by a visually striking music video and an extensive Australian tour.

Genesis Owusu, the Australian artist on the rise, is ready to make waves once again with his highly anticipated sophomore album, “STRUGGLER.” Set to drop on August 18th through Ourness and AWAL, this release is already stirring up excitement among music enthusiasts.

Owusu sets the tone for the album with the release of its lead single, ‘Leaving the Light,’ a high-energy fusion of synth-punk that demands your undivided attention. And as if that weren’t enough, he pairs the track with a visually striking music video directed by the visionary artist Lisa Reihana, adding another layer of artistic depth to the project.

The collaboration between Genesis Owusu and Lisa Reihana is a match made in creative heaven. Reihana’s talent shines through as she masterfully enhances the impact of Owusu’s already captivating music. Together, they create an immersive experience where sound and visuals intertwine seamlessly, transporting viewers into a world where artistry knows no bounds. It’s a testament to the power of collaboration and the ability of music and visual art to take us on an unforgettable journey.

Genesis Owusu provides some insight into the themes explored in “STRUGGLER” through a concise statement. The album delves into an absurd world devoid of purpose or direction, with Owusu relying on his instinctual inner rhythm to guide him through the chaos. It’s a raw and primal plea for survival in the face of adversity, akin to a persistent roach relentlessly pushing forward. With this album, Owusu invites us to confront the challenges of existence head-on, confronting the metaphorical lightning bolts and pestilence that life throws our way.

But there’s more. Adding to the anticipation, Genesis Owusu has unveiled an extensive Australian tour, featuring some of the most significant venues of his career. Kicking off on December 1st at Perth’s Ice Cream Factory, the tour will take him to Melbourne’s Festival Hall, Canberra’s UC Refectory, Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall, Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion, and Adelaide’s Hindley Street Music Hall. To make the experience even more exceptional, American hip-hop duo EarthGang, renowned for their debut album “Ghetto Gods” in 2022, will join Owusu on all tour dates except for the Perth show. Prepare yourself for an electrifying live experience.

The inspiration behind “STRUGGLER” stemmed from a close friend’s journey to the edge and back, and Owusu’s contemplation of existence was further fueled by the works of literary giants Samuel Beckett and Franz Kafka. This album is a product of collaborative efforts that spanned across the United States and Australia, involving renowned names such as Jason Evigan, Mikey Freedom Hart, Sol Was, and longtime collaborators Andrew Klippel and Dave Hammer. With such a talented lineup, “STRUGGLER” promises to be an intense and thought-provoking sonic adventure, delivering an unforgettable exploration of the human condition wrapped in an electrifying musical package.
