Hannah Rosa

Brisbane is a city that is probably best known to the world (if at all?) as the capital of Australia’s ‘Sunshine State’, Queensland. But that’s all about to change. Home to the local talent of Hannah Rosa – her incredible musical ability is about to really put Brissy on the map.

Growing up, Hannah was a regular attendee of many music events including the annual Woodford Folk Festival, the evidence of which can be heard through the strong folk influences in her music.

Brisbane’s Hannah Rosa combines her melodic, velvety vocals with a 12-string guitar (which she taught herself) to bring you Buried Alive.

Family road trips were often comprised of sing-alongs to those seemingly ‘daggy’ and ‘archaic’ tunes loved so much by parents and hated so much by their children. Now in hindsight, they seem like some of the greatest songs ever.

I am waaaay too guilty of this. Like many other musicians, Hannah was trained classically on the piano from a young age and eventually stopped slaving away at Mozart and Beethoven in favour of writing her own music. These days, Hannah Rosa finds herself writing honest and beautiful songs on the guitar, which she just so happened to teach herself to play.

In 2012, Hannah Rosa released her debut EP Tall Poppy and within 12 months had released another single entitled Delicate Love. Later this year, Hannah will be launching her Buried Alive EP and is set to release her single of the same name this month. With strong Western, blues and folk influences – Buried Alive perfectly encapsulates old-school style in a modern and interesting way.

The pop-folk musician combines her flawless and velvety vocals with a 12-string guitar and encourages the notion of ‘YOLO’ – but not in a cringe-inducing way. Buried Alive is a song about learning to ‘let your hair down’ and rising above what you can’t control.

Being compared to the likes of Missy Higgins and The Waifs (except not painful to listen to), I highly recommend that you check out Hannah Rosa, and give Buried Alive at least 3 spins before you find yourself walking around the house singing it. Hannah Rosa is super talented and her upcoming EP will be one to listen out for.

Dates for the launch of the Buried Alive single are as follows:

JUNE 26 – THE BEARDED LADY – BRISBANE

JUNE 27 – MANDALA ORGANIC ARTS CAFE – GOLD COAST

JUNE 29 – EUMUNDI LIVE WINTERSUN FESTIVAL – SUNSHINE COAST

JULY 4 – TREEHOUSE ON BELONGIL – BYRON BAY
