IMCHILD @ Oxford Arts

IMCHILD is the post-electronic project of 20 year old producer Gerard Dulay. It’s pulsating, groovy and very indicative of the trippy, upbeat electronica that’s coming out of suburban bedrooms at the moment – a perfect case study in the Sydney sound. With a debut album on the way, local party people No Dice Paradise are getting behind a live rendition of Dulay’s catalogue.

Enlisting a bassist, a pianist, two guitarists, a trumpeter and two drummers/percussionists, for this Saturday’s show (26th April) the Oxford Arts stage will certainly be home to a cosy setup of wires, amplifiers, dudes and midi cables. If you have a feeling that live renditions of primarily electronic stuff isn’t your thing, then I’d like you to check out this video of Dulay remixing Ta-Ku’s We Were In Love.

This dude has some serious chops on the kit. Oh, and also this cover of John Legend’s Wanna Be Loved. Someone get this kid a Zither or a Shamisen or something – my theory is that this guy can literally play anything.

Who: IMCHILD, aywy, Baerfrens + more

When: Sat 26th April

Why: $10 for the best electronic music in Sydney

There is a massive lineup in support of IMCHILD tomorrow night, featuring some of the best the city has to offer in terms of bedroom experimenters – dabbling in psychedelics and electronics in equal proportions. aywy provides shuffly, garage-ish beats perfect for getting your body moving, while Baerfrens make soundscapes that shift and shuffle a million sounds at once around your brain.

No Dice Paradise’s party is further blurring the lines between traditional indie music and contemporary electronic music by billing 90’s emulators Main Beach for their first ever show. They’re a band who sing songs about going to Frankies Pizza, and it’s a little strange to see them and Forster Anderson on this bill, the latter being a primarily acoustic singer songwriter.

Doors at 8:00pm, entry is $10, which is pretty damn cheap for a Saturday night at the Oxford Art Factory main room. Stay for as long as you want, because I’m not sure that Oxford Arts Factory ever closes.
