Happy: What are you up to today?
GDC: Finished the tour with 1300, back to our full work out routine, and preparing the second release.
Happy: Tell us about your suburb, what do you love/not love about where you live?
GDC: We all live in different suburbs currently. But we all have connections to one town, Strathfield (2135). Strathfield used to be the biggest K-town.
It was the place where all the Korean-Australian musician souls gathered up, where the grind started and where we all met each other for the first time.
We appreciate the Korean community, although it seems to be quite faded at the moment after Covid.
Happy: Tell us about your ultimate day?
GDC: The ultimate day is making ‘good’ music, Soju with sashimi , PS5 playing FIFA , have good sex and good night sleep.
Happy: Tell us about your creative community. Who are some artists or bands that have inspired you, and how have they influenced your music?
GDC: #freeYSL ,#RIPNujabes, #Yeforpresident, #Asap-as soon as possible, #AyoCjamm, #BillStax420
Happy:What did you read or watch last that opened your eyes and mind to a new perspective?
GDC: 1300’s EastCoast tour at Landsdowne, their engagement with the crowd.
Happy: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind Check In?
GDC: We felt that it was the perfect moment for us to make our entrance into the industry, which is where the inspiration for the term ‘check in’ came from.
It took us several years to finally come together as a team, and we wanted to make the beginning of this journey truly special. We all realised that we had outgrown our wild and innocent teenage years.
We don’t have the same eager energy. Our energy and hunger were not the same, and we no longer had endless time to try our hand at everything that caught our interest.
But we’ve levelled up. Grown mature over time. Our style became effortless, our energy more relaxed, and our desires expanded beyond seeking attention for our craft alone. We yearned for a lavish way of life, one that we aspired to live within.
To us ‘Check in’ felt like the key to unlocking the door to that elevated lifestyle. Picture it—wealth, luxury, and a touch of extravagance.
Happy: Can you tell us about the creative process behind Check In?
GDC: We had been experimenting with different sounds for a while. Prior to ‘Check In,’ we were accustomed to hardcore trap beats.
But this time around, we wanted to create a more laid back, flexy and simple sound that everyone can easily engage with and listen to.
Once we settled on the keyword ‘check in,’ we collectively conjured up a hook that we all instantly fell in love with. From that point on, everything flowed smoothly.
Each member tapped into their individual creativity and effortlessly crafted their verses in a remarkably short span of time.
Surprisingly, we managed to write and record the entire song in under a week. We knew this would be the right one.
Happy: The bilingual lyrics in “Check In,” intertwining Korean and English, add depth and international appeal to your music. How do you approach the incorporation of multiple languages into your songwriting process?
GDC: We consider language as a tool of expression, and incorporating English/Korean is basically having an extra tool to express and we use that as an advantage. This also allows us with more flexibility with our rhymes and sound.
Happy: The song exudes a dreamlike atmosphere and invites listeners to unwind. How did you go about creating this captivating and immersive experience in “Check In”?
GDC: This is exactly how we wanted our listeners to feel. We delivered this experience to them with unique sound designs.
We settled with a beat that encompassed a mellow Rhodes loop as its backbone, creating a soothing foundation.
Layered on top were spacey atmospheric sound effects, adding an ethereal quality to the composition, all while staying true to our trap roots.
We infused a glossy and flawless quality to the overall sound utilising Autotune.
The unique combination of the nostalgic jazziness and new school trap aesthetics crafted a sound that exuded a sense of mellowness, relaxation, and effortless coolness.
Happy: Can you tell us about the collective journey of Gold Diggers Club and how it has shaped your artistic vision and sound?
GDC: Every member in the team has been through different journeys in life, and our mission as a team is to combine individual artistry but still exploring “our” sound as Gold Digger Club, but the sound and the vision will be mostly based on our unique lifestyle and the way we perceive Global hip hop culture.
Happy: How does each member of Gold Diggers Club contribute to the overall sound and vision of the group? Can you describe the dynamics of collaboration within the collective?
GDC: When it comes to the Gold Diggers Club, each member brings their own flavour to the table, shaping our sound and vision in unique ways.
RJ is responsible for visual branding direction, Cooee Chad is responsible for vocal and mixing duties with precision and expertise, L Viggo is responsible for vocal direction, Kwai is the leader who is responsible for everything.
Collectively as a group, everyone has a responsibility based on their skillset, but everyone eventually contributes to everything to complete the project.
Happy: Looking ahead, what can fans expect from Gold Diggers Club in terms of future releases or projects? Are there any new directions or collaborations you’re excited to explore?
GDC: We are preparing for the next single releasing around late July, also more gigs and song releases are coming, so stay tuned.
Happy: Do you have any gear that you can’t live without?
GDC: Airpods, soju, condoms, cologne
Happy: Lastly, what makes you Happy?
GDC: The fact that we are still able to chase our dream everyday – GDC – Good Days Coming.
