Introducing Milkmaids

Straight outta Sydney-town, four piece Milkmaids have been making a name for themselves on the live circuit. The boys are producing dirty hard rock and have developed a small following – those who appreciate their distinctive no-holds-barred guitar-heavy sounds.

The band released their EP Heavy Sleeper in September last year, bringing to the public a more detailed glimpse into their gritty rock. The EP has a lengthy 8 tracks and takes you on a musical journey from softer melodic verses straight through to heavy metal with howling vocals.

One of the most interesting things about this band’s sound is that they rely very heavily on riffs and rhythm, so there is very little focus on the vocals. In fact, some tracks don’t have lyrics or vocals at all, which actually makes for a nice relaxation process for the ears. And it’s basically fine for them to rely on the riffs because, boy, they are good.

The EP itself was mastered by Grammy Award winning William Bowden, and although the boys are gritty, you can tell that the production process was quality. If I had to bang a label on these guys I would probably suggest DZ Deathrays meets The Dead Weather.

Metal is hotting up in Sydney-town and these boys are no exception. It’s probably worth hitting up one of their live shows and seeing what all the fuss is about.
