Introducing the cinematic soul sounds of Veronica Fusaro

Very few artists are able to stop you in your tracks. For many, it only happens once or twice in their lifetime – to be immediately mesmerised by another human’s music. However, Swiss singer-songwriter Veronica Fusaro effortlessly crafts music with this capability.

Diving into any one of her songs is an immersive listening experience. With spirited vocal delivery and shimmering production, her music is utterly captivating. Now, fresh off the release of her latest single Venom, Fusaro will be bringing her sounds down under for a special run of Aussie shows.

Before she kicks off her first ever Australian tour, we caught up with Swiss soul-pop artist Veronica Fusaro to chat her incredible new single and her introduction to music.

Throughout her new single, Fusaro glides through a hypnotic blend of indie-pop, soul, and folk to craft a sound completely her own.

I always write about things that won’t stop tormenting my heart and mind,” Fusaro says of the track.

Venom specifically is about the moment you realize that the person you handed your heart to keeps messing around with it. The relationship wasn’t doing you any good from the very beginning, and just like venom it slowly but surely numbs you from the inside.”

The track is simultaneously cinematic and down-to-earth. It will rope you in with striking vocals, and lift you off the ground with soaring instrumental arrangements.

It was only three years ago, at age 18, that Fusaro first made an impact on the Swiss music scene. Since then, the young artist has quickly become an internationally celebrated name.

I started writing songs when I was around 13 years old, but they weren’t any good at all… as you can imagine. Songwriting is like learning how to play an instrument, it’s all about practice and walking through the world with open eyes and mind,” she says of her beginnings.

I then started recording/producing my own songs in my parents’ basement around the age of 16. I guess that’s how I was able to find my own sound and experiment around without having anybody telling me what could sound better.”

It’s been a rather rapid ascension for Fusaro, though she remains far from complacent.

I mean, I’m still quite a bit away from where I would like to be, this is still the beginning of my journey. Let’s say it has been a very healthy growth so far, and I’ve had some pretty cool opportunities! I’m currently playing shows all over the world, doing my first little Australasia tour in November.”

Before she kicks off her Australian tour on Friday night at the Brass Monkey in Cronulla, Fusaro gives us a little teaser of what Aussie audiences can expect heading along to one of her shows:

“I brought my looper and my guitar with me, and I’ll sing about little excerpts of my life. I hope to be able to spend some lovely evenings with a bunch of cool people.”
