The Irrawaddy dolphin (often mistaken for the Australian snubfin dolphin) was first spotted in Borneo as late as 2012 and is testament to the precious and diverse fauna and flora of the region. It is estimated that there are less than 7,000 Irrawaddy dolphins in the wild making them an endangered species.
