Jason David Frank, the original star of ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’, has died aged 49.
Jason David Frank was one of the original stars of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which made its television debut in 1993.
Frank’s role as Tommy Oliver, the villainous Green Ranger, was one of the few characters from the show to develop and grow, who went on to become a firm fan favourite as he transformed from his initial bad guy role, to become the White Ranger.
90’s nostalgia at its best, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers gained popularity in the 90s, for its upfront use of stock footage from the Japanese Super Sentai show for its fight scenes.
Franks, reprised his role multiple times throughout the decades-long run of Power Rangers shows. Appearing in Power Rangers Zeo, Power Rangers Turbo, Power Rangers Wild Force, Power Rangers Dino Thunder, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, Power Rangers Hyperforce, and Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel, plus the 1995 and 1997 Power Rangers movies and the 2017 Power Rangers reboot (in which he had a cameo appearance).
According to multiple reports, the actor has died by suicide. He is survived by his four children. Our thoughts go out to his family.
