JAY-Z is assembling an album of unreleased Prince music to be released on Tidal next year

So the first thing you’re probably thinking is: “Hold on… Tidal’s still a thing?”

Yes, yes it. And not only is it still a thing, but next year, Tidal will also have two weeks of exclusive streaming rights to an album of previously unreleased Prince music assembled by none other than JAY-Z.

JAY-Z is working on a new album of previously unreleased Prince music to be streamed on Tidal exclusively for two weeks in 2019.

In 2016, JAY-Z’s company Roc Nation and Prince’s estate were involved in a legal battle, where the estate filed a lawsuit after Tidal claimed exclusive streaming rights to Prince’s entire catalogue.

It now appears that the legal issue has been resolved, as JAY-Z will be collaborating with the estate to release the new album.

Our only goal is to share Prince’s music with his fans as he wanted,” JAY-Z said in a press release.

After thoughtful and honest conversation with him, he chose TIDAL as his partner for HITnRUN Phase One and HITnRUN Phase Two, and we will continue to respect and honor Prince’s enduring legacy and wishes with this new collection.”

Before his death in 2016, Prince built an underground vault at the estate, and filled with enough music to release an album a year for the next hundred years… so you can expect more of this kind of thing in the coming years.
