August 3rd is Tony Bennett Day; a day to pay tribute to the civil rights activist, Word War II hero and icon in the jazz world, dubbed the “best singer in the business” by Frank Sinatra.
On August 3rd, Lady Gaga shared a series of pictures to her Instagram of her in the streets of New York, donning an all-black ensemble as a loving tribute to long-time friend and music collaborator Tony Bennett.
“I’ll be celebrating you a lot more than once a year.” wrote Lady Gaga, speaking directly to the iconic jazz singer in her post.
“I’ll celebrate you every time I’m on stage singing jazz music, every time I’m with your family, every time I walk down the streets of New York I’ll look around and remember all you did for this city and the whole world.”

This comes just weeks after the Tony Bennett passed away at the age of 96 after a years-long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Lady Gaga shared an emotional tribute saying her goodbyes to Tony in the form of a candid picture of the two embracing with a long message, expressing the intense and unconditional love the two had for each other; “Though there were 5 decades between us, he was my friend. My real true friend”.
She went on to take the opportunity to spread a powerful message and life-lesson:
“don’t discount your elders, don’t leave them behind when things change. Take care of your elders and I promise you will learn something special.”
