It feels like forever since Lana Del Rey announced that she would be releasing her first spoken word album this year.
Well, today is the day that we can finally listen to the Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass collection from the Queen herself.
Lana Del Rey has officially released her spoken world album Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass.
The release follows a number of delays resulting from COVID-19, as well as a wave of “cancel culture” hype over the singer. The project features Del Rey reading her words over expansive musical soundscapes from Jack Antonoff: the producer behind the singer’s 2019 release Norman Fucking Rockwell.

The spoken word album has been released as an audiobook, with an accompanying as a 112-page hardcover edition also hitting shelves on September 29. Earlier this year, Del Rey announced that proceeds would be going towards a number of Native American organisations.
Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass is the first of two poetry projects from the singer. The other, behind the iron gates – insights from an institution, doesn’t have a release date yet. For now, lose yourself in Lana’s melting voice on the album’s opening poem LA Who Am I To Love You.
