As if you couldn’t possibly get any more excited for this February’s Laneway Festival, they’ve gone and teamed up with taste-making record label I OH YOU and Red Bull Music to deliver ‘a festival within a festival’ boasting some real heavy hitters.
Alongside a heap of impressive acts like Mac Demarco, The War On Drugs, Wolf Alice and Alex Cameron, the new Block Party stage will feature Sydney DJ Basenji, New York Rapper Wiki, Melbourne’s UV Boi, Sydney electronic/dance crew Haiku Hands, and Tame Impala‘s Kevin Parker, amongst many others.
Just when you thought it impossible, Laneway 2018 just got even better with the addition of new ‘festival within a festival.’
The concept of the new stage is a homage to the original Laneway Festivals, held spontaneously from Melbourne’s Caledonian Lane in the early 2000s.
“There was such a creative, magic feeling at the original Laneway Festivals,” says co-founder Danny Rogers.
“I wanted to recreate that same feeling at the 2018 event and this idea just made total sense.”
I OH YOU, the label responsible for such acts as Violent Soho, DMA’s, Jack River, and DZ Deathrays, have a similar history throwing epic and spontaneous parties.
“I OH YOU was spawned through a series of house parties that were thrown in my share house a few years back,” label director Johann Ponniah says.
“I’m not exactly sure how we ended up here but in many ways it feels like BLOCK PARTY is going to capture the same energy that those initial parties had.”
If you want to head along to Laneway, it’s not too late to grab tickets here.
