Levi J. Burr soothes and transforms with Another Domino Map, a record of instrumental bliss

Australian musician and performer Levi J. Burr is slated to release his forthcoming album Another Domino Map later this month.

A delectable blend of country, fingerstyle and Americana, Burr creates atmospheric soundscapes of layered and precise acoustic guitars, topped with country slides and melodic hooks.

Another Domino Map is a pure blend; ambient and enticing, Burr’s passion is tangible – as well as his effortless ability.

Opening with upbeat Adders Fulcrum, Burr sets a tone of soothing exploration. Without sacrificing a slither of his unique chord changes or melodies, Adders Fulcrum remains accessible and enticing; altogether hypnotizing.

Orange Juice Master offers a look at the other side of the coin with a darker, more rambling essence. Clear Salt Water sends another nod to country music, already creating a rounding effect on the album just four tracks in.

Occasionally with instrumental records it becomes easy to lose yourself in the flow, unaware of how many songs have passed or which ones exactly you adored the most.

Burr gives us the space to transcend and tap out, but there is a clear distinction between each track, an individuality onto which we are able to grasp.

Whether it be a taste of longing, humour, or simmering emotion, Burr graces each moment with its own recognisable sonic coat.

Crisp and professional production, tracks like Twisted Glass feel as if pulled straight from the Nashville score.

A sense of seasoned musicianship echoes throughout Another Domino Map, even the title lending itself to the assumption that this is not Burr’s first rodeo.

This sense allows us to feel comfortable in surrendering ourselves to Burr and his creation. Twisted Glass, with its ambient and elevating outro, encourages letting go of expectations and desires.

With an almost meditative effect, Another Domino Map seems to reach a part of our mind that is otherwise too busy to pay attention.

Vested Over includes light percussion, a bedrock for Burr’s guitar playing to swirl and ascend above, whereas Magpie Drop takes a slightly more sinister route with its provocative slide guitars and unpredictable dynamics.

Closing with the title track, Burr delicately closes the door on Another Domino Map. Conclusive and moving, perhaps even a little mourning, Burr cultivates closure and curiosity.

A testament to his ability to reach into the hearts of others, Another Domino Map is a miraculous and career defining feat.
