Sydney progressive soul groovers Levingstone have dropped a sexy single to give us a taste of their new EP. The single, appropriately titled First Taste is a teaser for what the full release offers; a silky smooth, jazzy piece with slick reverb and some serious vocals.
This track was written on the floor of a high-ceilinged empty room in the band’s new house, and places you right there sonically. The piano progressions and subtle guitar lines warm Sammii Su’s vocals from beneath like softly burning embers, while still allowing the track to grow into a funky, upbeat finish.
Modern Burial is undeniably funky, yet Levingstone brings an extra emotional dimension to their EP with dashes of melancholy in all of the right places.
Modern Burials is the EP, available now for any listeners in need of an aural massage. Expect more of the classic Levingstone sound; genre-bending and emotionally charged by the band’s impressive vocal and musical range.
If you dig the EP, the opportunity to see this talented line-up live awaits. Levingstone are kicking off an east coast tour in no time, piggybacking the recent release. Soul, neo-jazz, progressive pop, progressive pop or whatever you call the delectable genre Levingstone pulls off is certainly underrepresented on the live front – so show your support in the coming month.
