Tributes continue to pour in for country music queen Loretta Lynn who passed away peacefully at home aged 90.
Loretta Lynn was known best for her ability to capture real-life experiences that were steeped heavily in personal truths into her songwriting. It was in this open and candid fashion, that she went on to ignite and inspire a new wave of self-expression in country music.
Never has autobiographical songwriting been so enduring, or resonated as deeply within American culture as Lynn’s Coal Miner’s Daughter, a song that speaks to being born into poverty, and her humble beginnings as a coal miner’s daughter before going on to become one of the most famous country singers in the world.
The country legend’s best-known tracks are Don’t Come Home A-Drinkin’, Honky Tonk Girl, and the feminist anthem, The Pill.
Lynn’s family said she died on Tuesday at her home in Tennessee.
“Our precious mom, Loretta Lynn, passed away peacefully this morning, October 4th, in her sleep at home in her beloved ranch in Hurricane Mills,” the family said in a statement. They asked for privacy as they grieve and said a memorial would be announced later.
Tributes are pouring in from fans far and wide, among them the countless musicians Loretta inspired, Carole King, Carrie Underwood, K.D Lang, Alan Jackson, and country compadres Stella and Dolly Parton.

The first time I met Loretta Lynn was at the Grand Ole Opry at beginning of my career. I was chatting in the corner with another artist and someone walked behind me and smacked me on the rear end! I turned around and there she was…in a big sparkly dress.. https://t.co/LG40fLLSiG pic.twitter.com/BGfL0SVwEo
