Tim Burton’s Addams Family spinoff, Wednesday shares its twistedly brilliant first trailer.
Netflix’s first look trailer for Wednesday, Tim Burton’s genius reimagining of The Addams Family reveals all the gothic stylings that the director is known for, along with a healthy dose of original Charles Addams cartoons that has given the show its very own unique flavour.
Tim Burton, famed director of cult classics, Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice is on board to executive produce and direct four out of the first eight episodes. This is the director’s first time entering the world of television. He has brought longtime collaborator and costume designer, Colleen Atwood along for the ride.
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán take on the roles of Morticia and Gomez Addams, with You actor, Jenna Ortega starring as Wednesday and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley.
The show creators, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, behind the hit TV show Smallville, recruited Burton to bring his unique brand of gothic sensibilities to Wednesday.
Gough shared in a recent interview with Vanity Fair, that Burton “wanted the silhouette to look more like the Charles Addams cartoons, which is Gomez shorter than Morticia, versus the kind of suave Raul Julia version in the movie.”
“He’s also incredibly debonair and romantic, and I think he has all those classic ingredients of the Gomez that has come before, but he brings something also very different and new,” Millar adds. “That’s something that was very important to the show—that it didn’t feel like a remake or a reboot. It’s something that lives within the Venn diagram of what happened before, but it’s its own thing. It’s not trying to be the movies or the ’60s TV show. That was very important to us and very important to Tim.”
Wednesday does not yet have an official release date. However, it is slated to premiere in the fourth quarter of 2022, hopefully in time for Halloween.
