JMC Academy hit Oxford Art Factory to celebrate outstanding achievements in student work across their Music, Audio and Entertainment Business Management departments.

Between awards being handed out, the audience were treated to live performances from each of the nominees for Best Original Song, showcasing the musical versatility of the student cohort. In the end, Emily Mills took out the award with her track Sugar and Vice and crushed her performance to a buzzing audience.

Judges included audio alumni, Peking Duk Producer and ARIA Winner Peter Holz, The Preatures vocalist Izzi Manfredi, Mark Lizotte AKA Diesel, and Midnight Oil drummer Rob Hirst.

Once the proceedings of the JMC Cassette Awards had finished up, the afterparty began with performances from Audio Head Lecturer Kylie Whitney’s band The April Family, alumni band Chasing Giants, and then a wild impromptu set from student band Phat Reef (who you can catch at Happy Mag’s 5th Birthday this month) to close the night.
