Indie American record label, Mexican Summer, have announced that they’re launching a new singles series. Looking Glass will feature a range of eccentric artists from their diverse family network.
Mexican Summer’s aim is to help their artists out as well as working towards doing their part for the coronavirus movement. They have given contributing artists the option of keeping the Bandcamp proceeds or distributing them to their desired not-for-profit organisations.
“The singles series demonstrates discovery, diversity, and collaboration with artists both from and not far from Mexican Summer’s family tree.”
The first track from the Mexican Summer project has dropped and it features a special remix of Connan Mockasin‘s I Wanna Roll With You by Andrew VanWyngarden (aka Gentle Dom) from MGMT. Check it out below:
“Looking Glass is a new music moment focused on the human condition as reflected through remote connection.”
Mexican Summer announced that Looking Glass will feature singles from their own and closely associated acts such as Angel Bat Dawid, Ariel Pink, Julie Byrne, Photay, Sessa and more. Maybe has a recognisably unique and versatile sound.
Looking Glass will be available for purchase on Bandcamp with all proceeds going back to the artists or non-for-profit charity organisations. After waiving their fees for one day to help struggling musicians, Bandcamp raised $4.3 million in revenue for artists the other week. The platform announced again that they will be extending this deal again to the first Friday for the next three months (May 1, June 5, and July 3). If you can, make sure to purchase artist merch and music on these particular days to help independent artists during these tough times.
Looking Glass is sure to feature some fascinating new sound that will warp your genre-defining horizons. Maybe we’ll get more synth-infused covers or we could hear brand new songs altogether. So keep your eyes posted for more Mexican Summer singles over the coming weeks. In the mean-time check out some of their select artists from their brilliant catalogue, such as Allah-Las, Ariel Pink, Connan Mockasin, Drugdealer and Weyes Blood, just to name a few.
