The 2022 MTV VMAs were huge! Check out these ceremony highlights, featuring Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Johnny Depp and more.
The MTV Video Music Awards of 2022 went off with a bang. During the three-hour ceremony, there were some big wins for industry veterans and new contenders alike, including Nicki Minaj with Best Hip-Hop and Jack Harlow with Song Of The Summer.
In case you missed the 38th annual ceremony, here’s a recap of some highlights from the eventful night.
#1 – Taylor Swift wins big & announces new album
Taylor Swift took home the ultimate prize of Video of the Year, for her 10-minute cinematic rendition of her 2012 hit track, All Too Well, which she released in November of 2021.
During her acceptance speech, the songstress delighted fans by revealing that her 10th studio album, Midnights is on the horizon, and is set for release on October 21. Check out Taylor’s moment of victory below.
#2 – Lizzo claps back at haters: “Big bitch is winning!”
Lizzo received the Video For Good award, for her funky dance-pop track, About Damn Time, released in April this year. During her acceptance speech, the hitmaking songstress did not hold back whilst addressing the recent disgusting and uncalled-for comments about her body image, which were made by comedian, Aries Spears: “And now, to the bitches that got something to say about me in the press,” she began. “They be like, Lizzo, why don’t you clap back? Cause bitch, I’m winning,” she said, raising her trophy. “Big bitch is winning!” Watch her epic speech below.
#3 – Johnny Depp makes a shock appearance
During the night, actor Johnny Depp surprised attendees by making a brief appearance. His face was digitally imposed inside the helmet of an astronaut. As his superimposed figure floated above the stage, he said, “hey, you know what? I needed the work. I just want you guys to know that I’m available for birthdays, barmitzvahs, batmitzvahs, weddings, wakes, any old thing you need.” Watch the moment of Johnny’s surprise cameo go down below.
