New York City residents are being promised $100 when they get their booster shot in a bid to increase vax numbers.
Due to a surge in COVID-19 cases linked to the Omicron variant, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that NYC residents who get the booster shot will be eligible to receive $100 through the end of the year.
It’s great that maybe we don’t need the encouragement in Australia but this does sound like a nice incentive… maybe we should give it a go.
New York City had already been offering $100 payments and other incentives to people who got their first dose of the vaccine after July.
New York’s Mayor, de Balio spoke at a press briefing on Tuesday to tell the public that boosters are “a crucial piece of the equation” ,
“We want everyone right now, as quickly as possible to get those boosters,” he said.
New York registered 12,29 new COVID cases on December 20 which makes us look pretty good here in Sydney.
The city has resisted imposing any new restrictions or shutdowns with de Blasio saying they would instead focus on ramping up vaccinations and booster shots.
“Vaccinations are the real weapon to defeat [COVID-19]”
Incentives like the $100 payments have been a popular tactic, with some states offering prizes like million-dollar letters, free beer and even guns.
Yeah, you read correctly. Guns. How very American.
New York’s $100 initiative is the first of its kind to be rolled out with the booster shots.
Considering we haven’t had any incentives in Aus except being allowed out to most venues, maybe a little bit of cash money would get Aussies back to the GP for their third jab.
