Poor, lovely, Tom Hanks. The guy is a bloody legend. He’s been on our shores of late for the filming of Baz Lurhmann’s new Elvis Presley biopic, casually taking photos with fans on our little old Gold Coast beaches.
Yet, it’s become clear that we just can’t have nice things, because Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have confirmed they’ve tested positive for coronavirus.
Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson have confirmed they’ve tested positive for coronavirus whilst on the Gold Coast filming Baz Lurhmann’s new Elvis biopic.
The iconic actor took to Twitter to confirm the news.
“Hello, folks. Rita and I are down here in Australia,” Hanks tweeted. “We felt a bit tired, like we had colds and some body aches. Rita had some chills that came and went. Slight fevers too. To play things right, as is needed in the world right now, we were tested for coronavirus, and were found to be positive.”

According to Johns Hopkins University, Australia currently has 128 confirmed cases, whilst the United States has more than 1,200. Despite this, it seems Hanks couldn’t beat the odds.
Ironically, Hanks’ Twitter bio aptly reads: “I’m that actor in some of the movies you liked and some you didn’t. Sometimes I’m in pretty good shape, other times I’m not. Hey, you gotta live, you know?”
I guess life really is like a box of chocolates. Get well soon Tom and Rita!
