Yes, you read that correctly, NSW Health legitimately used a gif of Delta Goodrem’s face to encourage people to get vaccine boosters.
Government entity NSW Health have apologised to Delta Goodrem after posting an Instagram story with a gif of the Australian musician’s face, surrounded by needles jabbing the side of her head.
It would be hard to find anyone in Australia who hasn’t cracked a joke, or at least made the connection between the deadly Covid-19 variant, Delta and the judge of The Voice, Delta Goodrem.
But there’s just a slight difference between a story posted to a private Instagram account, zooming in on the giant Delta Goodrem tour poster that ironically overlooks the Qudos Bank Arena vaccination hub, compared to a story posted by the Instagram account of a government department that the entire state relies on for vital health and safety information.
The singer posted a screenshot of NSW Health’s story with the caption, “I have a HUGE problem with this @newsouthwaleshealth are you serious????????”.
NSW Health quickly began damage control, releasing a statement that said, “NSW Health was attempting to convey an important public health message but recognises it made an error of judgment and sincerely regrets the offense caused to Delta Goodrem”.
Since the arrival of Delta (the Covid strain), Delta (the singer) has seen the funny side of sharing her name with the variant, announcing on Twitter that she was on the hunt for a new name.
