While it might’ve arrived over a month ago, we’re still floating on the airy sonic cloud that was Otlo’s debut album Woozy.
Taking its title as an aesthetic direction, the ten-track collection saw the Tennessee-based singer explore the reaches of bedroom pop, flitting between glittery acoustics and mellow balladry while navigating his experience of coming-of-age.
Like any great musician, Otlo — known offstage as Preston Bearden — knows he is somewhat indebted to the greats who came before him.
Fresh off the release of Woozy, Otlo swung by Happy Mag to list his all-time favourite musicians, and share some of their best-ever tracks.
See the singer’s full playlist, spanning Mac DeMarco to Frank Sinatra, below, and scroll down to listen to his new album Woozy.
Cocteau Twins
The song “Sea, Shallow Me” is beautiful and has such an awesome snare in it. I love big snares haha.
Michael Seyer
Michael Seyer’s music is so relaxing and lovely. The track “Heaven Only Knows” is my favorite.
Strawberry Guy
Strawberry Guy’s production has been a huge influence for me. The song “Mrs. Magic” is one of all time favorites.
Cuco
Where do I start with Cuco? He’s one of my favorites of all time and his sound is so unique. My favorite from him is “Stay For A Bit”.
Roy Orbison
I am a sucker for the dreamy and romantic ballads of the 60s. The song “Blue Bayou” is beautiful.
Her’s
These two were wonderful and I miss them so much. “If You Know What’s Right” is a bop.
TV Girl
Ever since I heard “Lover’s Rock” I was hooked on TV Girl. Another great song from them is “Not Allowed”.
Mac DeMarco
The prince of indie that needs no introduction. “Dreams from Yesterday” has always been my favorite.
Frank Sinatra
“My Way” is what I think would play during the final credits of the universe’s end. Just so timeless.
Men I Trust
Seeing this band play live was life changing. “Tree Among Shrubs” makes me feel like I am floating every time I listen.
