The Ottomans @ Beetle Bar

I don’t know them personally, but I get the feeling that The Ottomans are a band after my own heart. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that they’re the kind of dudes who would agree that The Rolling Stones were better than The Beatles, Tarantino is better than Spielberg, Red Dead Redemption was better than GTA IV and that Spaghetti Western is better than Mom’s Spaghetti.

For a band from the Gold Coast, their sound is thankfully more akin to the immortal, shifting sands of the Mojave desert rather than the Flavoured Smirnoff soaked sands of Broadbeach. Think Murlocs meets Nick Cave meets that episode of The Simpsons with the space coyote. Catch them on Saturday night (19th April) at Brisbane’s Beetle Bar, where they’ll be playing alongside our faves White Lodge, Hypnotic Bedrooms and Doom Mountain.

The Ottomans

Happy’s #1 pick for best lineup this weekend is taking place this Saturday (19th April) at QLD’s Beetle Bar, headlined by The Ottomans.

White Lodge give a similar western vibe, but with a healthy dose of spaghetti, a sprinkling of halloween TV special soundtracks, and a little bit of a Microcastle ripoff on their beautiful track Flower Eyes. Hypnotic Bedrooms are a calmer, gazier, lo-fi take on the same garage wah-pedal scene, while Doom Mountain are really, really not what you’d expect from the name.

Far more pop than doom, the band utilise the most rudimental of 60’s garage and polish it up to create something amazingly catchy. Their milky smooth lead tones will definitely be worth heading down to Beetle Bar early for.

Tix are $10 on the door, which I can only imagine swing open saloon style at 8:00pm.
