More than 50,000 people have signed a petition demanding Danny DeVito be the cast as the next-gen Wolverine.
After Marvel reclaimed the rights to the character last March, fans have been speculating about who might take on the retractable claws.
Thousands of fans are getting behind 74-year-old Danny DeVito in a petition which calls for the comedian to be cast as the next Wolverine.
Ring Arius published a petition on Change.org, making a pitch on DeVito’s behalf, stating that “if Wolverine is to make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that the only man able to pull it off is Danny DeVito.”
After fans farewelled Jackman’s character in 2017’s Logan, Marvel bought back the rights to the X-Men universe. Speculation has been running wild since, with Tom Hardy, Dafne Keen, Luke Evans and Daniel Radcliffe also singled out.
DeVito might seem an odd choice, but fans argue that casting the 5’2 comedian would be staying true to the comics. Technically, Wolverine is only 5’3, which makes DeVito (almost) the perfect fit.
Those signing the petition have cited a variety of reasons, but the consensus is that superheroism is, naturally, DeVito’s destiny. “I’m signing not because I want to, but because I have to. No other actor can carry the role”, one fan said.
DeVito is yet to comment on the hype, but let’s hope he’s as on board as we are.
