P!nk was told having children would ruin her career

In an interview, P!nk revealed she was told having children would ruin her career and explained how it did the opposite.

Contrary to what she was told, P!nk believes her career truly began when she became a mother.“I mean, I did a lot of stuff before that” she admitted, “but really, truly, I think it’s when I started to really understand myself and understand the world, and my place in it”.

“Everyone told me, ‘If you have children right now, your career’s over'” she recalled during an interview with Zane Lowe. “Everyone has this idea of me that I’m just my singles, right? That I’m the snarling, man-eating angry, like she-man, right?” she said. “When I had a child, I think it softened me to the world, the part that didn’t understand me”.

P!nk has described her own childhood family life as “screwed”, admitting she began smoking at the age of nine. Her parents divorced when she as ten and, later, she fell into the wrong crowd, began using drugs and was arrested numerous times as a teenager.

After her own negative childhood, P!nk explained that her family is extremely important to her. “I’m super affectionate and cuddly and goofy,” she said, admitting that “just doing music wasn’t enough for me”. “I was so lonely,” she explained, labelling the music industry as “a very lonely business”.

P!nk has two children, 11-year-old Willow and six-year-old Jameson. No matter what, she says she will always put them before her career. “I love writing songs. I love singing songs. I love performing. Sitting with a guitar is one of my favourite things I’ll ever do. But cuddling with my babies and taking them camping and being dirty for three days is also one of the coolest things I’ll ever do.”
