PREMIERE: Be warned, Chase City’s new single Surrounded is a synthy jam that will stick in your head all week

Hobart quartet Chase City have been on the upward bound since their breakthrough performances as part of Falls Festival 2013’s Unearthed comp. They offer up a homegrown surf rock vibe, with seriously catchy vocal lines and an overwhelmingly happy sound.

After spending a stint writing and recording, the four Tassie lads are ready to unveil their newest offering, a sparkling single titled Surrounded. It’s a little more synth-heavy than we’re used to – but who’s going to disagree with more synth?

Surrounded is the latest jam from Tasmania’s Chase City, a tune packed with tasty synths, catchy indie vocals and some of the most feel-good vibes you’ve ever heard.

The single presents clear nods to Chase City influences The Wombats and Foster The People in it’s anthemic, indie vocals and some terrific synth work. Frontman and vocalist Tarik Stoneman really hits the money here – you could probably twist a stranger into believing it was The Wombats’ vocalist Matthew Murphy singing on Surrounded.

With every track Chase City releases, we see a new facet of their sound reaching out for the first time. In the past we’ve seen more classic Aussie surf rock releases, more dance oriented tracks like Don’t Wait, and everything in between. A band which evolves is a band which progresses – exactly what Chase City is doing.

If experimentation is the game Chase City is playing, we’re all for it. A band as young as these fellas can gain a huge amount of experience, and respect from the exercise of finding the sound which really suits them, and with Surrounded they inch ever closer.

In other good news for this awesome foursome, a national tour is on the cards. Having completed six headline tours already, you can rest assured that Chase City is proven on the live front. To top off their own shows, they’ve supported serious Aussie favourites the likes of Sticky FingersDune Rats and Gang Of Youths.

They’ll be hitting the entire east coast on the tour, including the oft-forgotten Hobart! Chase City were never going to neglect their hometown. Check out the dates and venues below, with a three-week residency at Melbourne hotspot The Workers Club included.
