Last year, when Emily Jane shared her Behind Closed Doors EP, we were immediately taken aback by her arresting, melancholic vocals and rich songwriting style. Now, performing under the new name Malina Claire, the singer-songwriter has returned with Darling; a beautiful slice of ethereal folk brilliance.
With the new track’s release, Malina Claire continues to establish herself as one of the most exciting emerging voices in Aussie music. It should go without saying that we’re stoked to be premiering it for you today.
Gold Coast-based singer-songwriter Malina Claire has shared her stunning new track Darling; four-minutes of ethereal folk brilliance.
Throughout the new single, Claire glides through a blend of folk, dream-pop and soul to deliver a sound uniquely her own. With captivating vocal delivery, heartwrenching lyricism, and stunning instrumentation, Darling balances gracefully between vulnerability and power. It feels simultaneously intimate and far-reaching.
The new track was written with Claire’s boyfriend Zak Muller, who “designed the bulk of the instrumental.” Claire then started adding layers of vocals to the track, and a story began to unfold.
“I slowly began feeling as if I was writing the track about our relationship and my own thought process of denial and distance until I was able to allow myself to be loved, and to love, without fear,” she says of the song.
These are still early days in this new phase of Malina Claire’s career, but judging by the quality of we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality tunes from Malina Claire.
For now, do yourself a favour and listen to the new track above.
